Mother’s Day Cult Classic Movie Recommendation
Mother's Day is this Sunday and as a Mom, I can tell you, we'd rather just stay in our pajama pants all day, no need for going out for a nice meal, pizza on the couch is fine. We do love a great movie with the family though, my recommendation for this Sunday is the John Waters 1994 cult classic, 'Serial Mom.'
They couldn't have cast this movie better, Kathleen Turner as Beverly Sutphin is perfection. If you've never seen it, or haven't seen it in a while, the plot revolves around a Mom who appears to be the perfect caregiver, but is actually a serial killer. Not in a scary way, in an over the top hilarious way. The movie is described as a comedy crime and currently holds a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Serial Mom's interactions with neighbor Dottie Hinkle are hands down my favorite parts of the movie, Mrs. Sutphin's crank calls to her have me cackling loudly no matter how many times I see the flick. Bonus: L7 plays the band Camel Lips in the film. Fun Fact: the voice of Ted Bundy is actually John Waters. 'Serial Mom' is less disturbing than 'Mommie Dearest' and is guaranteed to make Mom laugh, pair it with take out from The Bridge and you've got yourself a solid Mom's Day Sunday! But, if you do decide to get out for some fresh Montana air, don't forget that fishing is free for Moms this weekend.
