This morning we let you know that a nationwide 'pause' was announced for the Johnson & Johnson single dose COVID-19 vaccinations due to a very rare, but severe blood clot that could develop. Federal officials say that six cases of the blood clot have been reported within two weeks of receiving the one-dose vaccine in the United States. All of the six people developing the blood clots were women between the ages of 18 and 48, and includes one death.

Considering this new development, all Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinics scheduled in Montana are canceled, including one here in Missoula. We heard from the Events & Marketing Coordinator for the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center, Amanda Caeser, who said, "Per CDC and FDA recommendations to pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine, we are canceling tomorrow's vaccine clinic at the Food Bank." The vaccination clinic was scheduled for Aprl 14th.

If you had been planning to attend the Food Bank clinic, you can make a new appointment to receive the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccines through the Missoula City County Health Department, they have a LOT of appointments available.

In other Food Bank news, they are now hiring for “Director of Community Organizing & Equity,” a “Volunteer Coordinator,” and a “Summer Intern.” Learn more and apply for these positions online. Fun things are happening for local kids, too. EmPower Place, next to the Food Bank at 1720 Wyoming Street, invites kids to joint them in their garden on Monday, April 19th from 2:30 to 5 p.m. to build their own bird-feeder. Reservations aren't required and all materials will be provided during the activity.
