The Missoula City County Health Department has issued a press release stating that ‘now is the time to ‘step down’ more of Missoula County’s COVID 19 requirements', such as masks.

At its meeting on April 15, the Board of Health proposes that the change from ‘requirements’ to ‘recommendations’ for businesses, bars, restaurants, gyms, and other entities’ be allowed.

The press release states that ‘Missoula County’s new COVID 19 case incidence rate has stayed relatively low and COVID 19 vaccine appointments have opened to all Missoula residents 16 and older. In light of those developments, the Missoula City County Health Department proposes that the Board of Health change most COVID 19 mitigation ‘requirements’ to ‘recommendations’.'

However, the mask requirements would remain intact with two changes:

The trigger for requiring face coverings at outdoor events and gatherings would increase from 25 to 50 people, and the Health Officer would be required to shift the face coverings requirements to recommendations on or after May 11, 2021, since 60 percent of Missoula residents have had at least on dose of the vaccine.’

The release states that current trends show continued transmission among residents ages 20 to 39, the age group with the lowest vaccination rate in the county.
