It almost seems like the city of Hamilton couldn't wait for May to arrive this year. Restrictions are disappearing and the month is starting off at a high activity level.

First Friday Returns to Hamilton, Montana

An evening shopping event is returning after a long absence. "First Friday" will be brought back on May 6 by the Hamilton Downtown Association and will be a monthly promotion during the summer, where participating businesses stay open an extra couple of hours (from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) with special First Friday sales, and some non-profit organizations will set up sidewalk displays to promote awareness of their programs. Many of the businesses have refreshments for the shoppers.

Spring Shop Small, Celebrate Mom on Main

The next day, May 7 is also Spring Shop Small and Celebrate Mom on Main in Hamilton. National Small Business Week is May 1-7, with Small Business Saturday topping off the week. The Hamilton Downtown Association is also having some fun with Mother's Day. Executive Director Robin Pruitt said they'll have free horse-drawn carriage rides Saturday, May 7, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Main Street. Some of the businesses also will have tips for the kids looking for that special present for mom.

Culture Crawl

What about Culture Crawl? When the former First Friday stopped, the art galleries of "Culture Crawl" moved their special events to every month's Second Saturday. And that's where it will remain. So, lucky you! You get to have another weekend each month of special downtown activities. That next Culture Crawl will be Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Everybody's been asking, and here is the answer.

Saturday, May 7, is the first day for this year's Hamilton Farmers Market! The incredibly popular market surrounds the Ravalli County Museum again this year, at South 3rd and Bedford. You'll find bedding plants, flowers, and specialty crafts early this season and as the crops come in, the fresh vegetables and fruit will be very welcome. It opens at about 9 a.m. and wraps up at about 12 noon, every Saturday this month, starting May 7, for your strolling pleasure. Please leave your pets at home.

There's lots more this May, and we'll keep you "in the know" at 1240 AM KLYQ Radio and right here on this website.
