Empower Montana Will Celebrate Resilience in Missoula
October is LGBTQ+ History Month and several groups here in Missoula will team up to recognize and honor this special month with a show at the ZACC. EmpowerMT and UM Theatre & Dance will partner with the UM Social Justice Theater Class to present "Verbatim: Celebrating Resilience."
The show will begin with a reading of "Diversity Day: The Play" which chronicles a Missoula City Council Meeting in 2010 when the city expanded Missoula's Non-Discrimination Ordinance to include protections based on gender and sexual identity. The play was written by playwright and LGBTQ+ historian, Gregory Hinton, and he will be directing and attending the reading. The second part of the program will include a historical and contemporary LGBTQ+ storytelling project with performance pieces based on local LGBTQ+ stories collected and composed by the Social Justice Theater class.
Join us this Sunday, October 17th at the ZACC, doors are at 5:30 with the event starting at 6. It's free and open to all ages but there is a $20 suggested donation with 100% of the proceeds going to EmpowerMT LGBTQ+ Programs, The Center, Montana Two-Spirit Society, and TransVisible.
A note from the ZACC:
Masks are required for attendees for all Show Room events at this time. Masks may be removed for beverage consumption, but we ask that they please be worn at any time when not actively drinking.
