Want to Carve Jack-o’-Lanterns in Missoula Without the Mess?
It's pumpkin carving time and you either find yourself outside on the porch or patio or hovered over newspapers on the kitchen floor. Scratch that, do they even print newspapers anymore? Last year we laid out a garbage bag, made for easy cleanup. Anyway, skip all that mess and join other families for a pumpkin carving event at the PEAS Farm.
First, if you've never been to the PEAS Farm, it's not a farm full of peas, as some Missoulians like to believe. It's a U of M environmental science project that stands for Program for Ecological Agriculture and Society, was started back in 1997, and has become a staple in the community for field trips, classes, learning, and simply getting to know your local food system.
The PEAS Farm is also a place for fun! On Saturday, October 16th, they are hosting a Pumpkin Pary for local families. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., select a pumpkin, use the carving tools provided, and leave with a creatively gorgeous jack-o'-lantern for your porch! Kid-safe tools will be provided, along with buckets for pumpkin guts, and hoses for washing off all the sticky. Gut your pumpkin and take it home for carving, or, carve on site, your choice. Pumpkins will run between $5 and $10 each, and the fall harvest stand will also be open for purchases.
The PEAS Farm does accept cards and will require masks for this event and any visits to the farm this season. The address is 3010 Duncan Drive, in the upper Rattlesnake, you can see a map below. Happy Halloween!
