I saw an upcoming event featuring one of my favorite local artists, Monica Gilles-BringsYellow and wanted to share it with you because I know it will be amazing. The ZACC is hosting an Indigenous Art Exposure titled "Resiliency of Montana," a two day collaborative featuring tribal artists and an Indigenous Art Market. I'm definitely hitting that market, luckily for me, it's right before our trip to Seattle for Hella Mega, (finally! And it better not get canceled!) so I'll actually be able to get downtown to enjoy this event with the fam.

On Friday, September 3rd there will be a Gallery Opening from 5 to 8 p.m. featuring art by Carlin Bear Don’t Walk, Monica Gilles-BringsYellow, Two Eagle River School, and Evani Spencer, and music by Teague Goodvoice.

An Indigenous Art Market will feature:
Jesse and Tillie Derosier
Dancing Butterfly Designs and Native Bling
Evening Designs
Antelope Woman Designs
Buffalo Bridge Designs and Thunderwoman Designs
NomadCulture 406
Plains Soul
Sweet Sage Woman

Also enjoy readings by Chris La Tray and Heather Cahoon, with music performances by Crybaby and Foreshadow in the ZACC show room from 7 to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, September 4th, the ZACC show room will feature a Two Eagle River School student photography panel and slide show from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a Fashion Show emceed by Dr. Brad Hall and Dr. Annie Belcourt. Indigenous members from the community will showcase their heritage in both traditional and contemporary fashion, featuring clothes by local designer, Sweet Sage Woman.

The weekend is sponsored by United Way of Missoula County and masks will be required at this event to protect tribal members and their communities.

A couple of years ago I went to the Pink Dress Project exhibit at the ZACC and I will never forget seeing a dress that missing Indigenous woman Jermain Charlo had modeled. I feel fortunate to have seen the photos of her in the dress, confident, beautiful, I like to remember her that way.
