At around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a collision occurred between a train and a vehicle in Frenchtown. According to the Frenchtown Rural Fire District, it appears a car entered the tracks from Beckwith, drove west on the tracks, and possibly got stuck. The crash took place 100 yards west of the King Ranch crossing and the train took half a mile to stop after hitting the vehicle.

The fire department says the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. Train crews attempted to look inside the vehicle for signs of life, but had to back off due to the intensity of the fire. After the fire was extinguished, no occupants were located inside the vehicle.

According to FRFD, law enforcement did eventually locate one of the people who was in the vehicle. According to officials, that person was taken to the hospital with "little to no injury”.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office along with Montana Highway Patrol also responded to the incident. They are assessing damage, cleaning up, and attempting to locate other possible occupants. According to officials, the initial investigation shows the vehicle was not occupied at the time of the crash.
