As the summer starts, University of Montana students return to their hometowns, whether in-state or out-of-state. However, students still have the option to learn and take classes at UM. There is a slimmer selection of classes offered. There is still an opportunity for students to fulfill their general elective credits or fulfill major and/or minor requirements.

Types of Summer Classes Offered: University of Montana

UM offers both in-person classes and plenty of online classes. By having online classes, it allows students to get their education whether they are in the Missoula area or not. Online classes also allow students to work at their own pace.

Classes to Look Forward to at the University of Montana

Many of the most interesting online classes discuss marginalized groups in American society, such as how African American culture has evolved, to an introduction course on Native American culture and history.  In a world where many people of color’s voices have been silenced, it is very important to have these classes.

Both the sociology and psychology departments offer some very interesting classes, too. The psychology program offers a class on psychological disorders and the sociology program offers a class on the juvenile justice system. Both departments offer the most summer courses, but they don't intend to make summer school boring.

Other majors such as Media Arts and Journalism offer classes to remote students such as a class about what fake news is and you won't believe what it is called. Media Arts hosts a course on how horror movies have evolved in the past 60 years. There is such a wide selection of classes to take online in the summertime. That does not make summer school a chore, but rather a fun educational experience.

On the other hand, there are in-person summer classes. For example, Astronomy 131 with Dr. Mark Reiser is an in-person class taught on campus. Dr. Reiser has plenty of activities planned like going to the Planetarium in the Payne Native American Center. There is such a wide selection of classes to take online in the summertime.

Here is a list of the ten most interesting summer classes that UM offers.
