Get Your First Look at Johnny Flynn as David Bowie in ‘Stardust’
The first photo of actor Johnny Flynn in costume as David Bowie in the upcoming biopic Stardust has been released.
One of the movie's producers, Paul Van Carter, uploaded the picture to Instagram. The film tells the story of Bowie's 1971 U.S. tour that led to the birth of his Ziggy Stardust character. The film is currently in production.
You can see the photo below. No new information has been surfaced regarding the movie, which was announced back in February with information regarding its director (Gabriel Range) and main cast. In addition to Flynn's starring role, Jena Malone plays Bowie's first wife, Angie, and Marc Maron stars as his publicist.
Flynn is best known to U.S. audiences as the star of the Netflix series Lovesick, which first aired on Britain's Channel 4. He's also the frontman for the British folk-rock band Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit. It's unknown whether he'll be providing his own vocals in Stardust.
Range's directorial credits include 2010's I Am Slave and 2006's Death of a President. Maron is a veteran stand-up comedian who hosts one of the most popular interview podcasts around, WTF; he's also starred in Netflix's GLOW and Easy. Malone starred as Johanna Mason in the Hunger Games franchise and had a role in the TV miniseries Too Old to Die Young.
Stardust is not authorized by Bowie's estate. The late icon's son, Duncan Jones, said in a series of tweets that he's “pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for any biopic. ... I would know.
"I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of Dad’s music in it, and I can’t imagine that changing. If you want to see a biopic without his music or the family's blessing, that’s up to the audience.”
