Fresh off their drubbing of Boise State Wednesday night at Dahlberg Arena, the Montana Lady Griz received some disheartening news yesterday afternoon.

Skyline Sports first Tweeted that freshman standout Macey Huard entered her name into the transfer portal.

The report was corrabarated with Talia Goodman at thenexthoops.com.

Huard ends her career at the University of Montana after one season. Her Freshman campaign was a productive one - scoring 7.4 points per game (238 this season), averaging 2.9 rebounds per game and shooting 83 percent at the free throw line. In the opening round win of the WNIT over the Broncos earlier this week, Huard posted a career high 16 points in the win over Boise State.

After playing high school ball in the state of Washington, Huard graduated from Valor Christian High in Colorado where she was the state's top recruit a season ago. Macey chose Montana to play with her sister Haley Huard, a junior, over some big name schools including the University of North Carolina.

The timing is notable as the announcement was made Thursday, just a day after the WNIT win. Montana is slated to play North Dakota State in the second (date, time and location still to be determined). Huard presumably will not play any further in the postseason tournament.

A trio of seniors - Carmen Gfeller, Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw and Gina Marxen - all graduate. That's four players departing with one freshman recruit signed and announced - Avery Waddington from Coeur d'Alene. The Lady Griz will surley dip into the transfer portal.

Other notable transfers in the Big Sky Conference: Esmeralda Morales (Portland State) (Big Sky Conference's leading scorer) and Summah Hanson (Sacramento State) (Big Sky Freshman of the Year).
