Sad News: This Year’s Forester’s Ball at UM Has Been Cancelled
Thanks to the ongoing logistical difficulties caused by COVID, one of Missoula's favorite traditions has had to be postponed by another year.
The 2022 Forester's Ball Has Officially Been Cancelled
For the second year in a row, the Forester's Ball committee has decided to cancel the long-running annual event at the University of Montana. They made the announcement on their Facebook page.
The Forester's Ball is one of Missoula's oldest traditions, dating back to 1915. Over the course of 100 years, the ball has only been cancelled four times - the first two times were during World War II. Thanks to COVID, the ball has had to add a few more cancellations under its belt for 2021 and 2022.
If you're not familiar, the Forester's Ball is an annual event where the Schreiber Gym on UM campus is transformed into an 1890s-style logging town with all kinds of activities, plus a beer garden and a live band.
The committee was already considering an alternate location for the ball this year on the UM tennis courts in an attempt to provide the safest possible environment, but unfortunately, it just didn't work out.
The committee remains optimistic about the ball's chances for next year, so hopefully the Forester's Ball gets to make a grand return in 2023.
Luckily, it's not all bad news for events on UM campus - the Kyiyo Pow Wow is returning in April after taking the last couple of years off! Details on that can be found right here.
Are you bummed to once again have to miss the Forester's Ball in 2022?
