Missoula Police received a tip around 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning about a wanted suspect thought to be lodging at a motel downtown. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

"Officers responded to a motel in the 400 Block of West Broadway after receiving information that Michael Nichols was possibly in a room there. As they began to enter in and speak to employees of the motel, an officer on one side of the building actually saw Mr. Nichols poke his head out of a window and look around."

The police officer also saw a woman looking around out the window, pretty soon, both were in custody.

"They were identified as Mr. Nichols, who was in-fact, a recent escapee from a per-release center in Butte as well as 19-year-old Alexia Pierre," Welsh said. "Both were arrested: Mr. Nichols for the warrant for his arrest for being a walkaway, he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine."

Mrs. Pierre was found to be in possession of both meth and marijuana, she was also charged with obstructing a peace officer. Police say she was acting as a "lookout" for Nichols.
