Earth Day is a week from from Friday, April 22. Since 1970, it has always been intended to be a day of education about environmental issues.

At least a couple of Missoula businesses that we are aware of will be marking the day with awareness campaigns and free merchandise. The 2022 Earth Day theme is "Invest in our Planet."

Our friends at the Good Food Store in Missoula invite you to sop by. From noon – 3:00 pm, you can visit with and sign up to win prizes from Recycling Works, Missoula Compost Collection, Garden City Harvest and Home Resource. Also, Trees for Missoula will be handing out native tree seedlings from noon – 2:00 pm.

The Good Food Store is located at 1600 South Third Street West.

There is also an event the day after Earth Day you might want to check out.

Over 36 million pounds in 2021. That’s how much you helped divert from the landfill down at Garden City Compost. Great job being sustainable, Missoula.

Facility Manager Jason Duffin tells us that to show their appreciation, on Saturday, April 23, the day after Earth Day, the first 50 people through the gates will get a free bag of potting mix. After the 50 are given away, there is still a great deal, as Garden City Compost will offer the bags of potting mix at half price, just $3 each, the rest of the day. And be sure to enter the drawing to win one cubic yard of lawn top dress. There will be 10 winners.

Garden City Compost is located at  1125 Clark Fork Lane, right behind the Mullan Road Super WalMart location. Hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Mondays through Saturdays.
