As many of our locals understand, you notice quite a variety of state license plates on the roads around Big Sky Country. Montana is a popular destination and given the number of television shows and movies featuring aspects of our state it only seems natural that its intrigue and popularity will continue to grow. So if you're coming to Montana this summer (i.e. wildfire season) you'll want to stay informed.

It can be more than a bit worrying when you discover a wildfire on your route!

Thanks to the Montana Department of Commerce and the Office of Tourism, you have access to special wildland fire information available for travelers coming and going into Montana destinations. Yellowstone, Glacier, Flathead Lake, and areas around Kalispell were also mentioned. Lots of detail. It lists fishing restrictions as well as forest alerts and restrictions.

Information is updated daily

Montana is BIG and just because you may see or smell smoke, it doesn’t mean a fire is nearby. It could be hundreds of miles away! This website also carries links for smoke and air quality conditions, road conditions, construction and webcams from across the state, and even an app with interactive maps to help plan a trip. On that topic, you can find links to destinations you may have a certain interest in while visiting Montana or discover something to make that planned cross-country stop a memory maker.

You don't need to be visiting Montana to appreciate the concisely put-together collection of traveler information. Kudos! All I can add is to enjoy your trip. Safe journey!
