During a normal year, the Oscars would be broadcasting from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, like they've done every year since 2001. But we're not in a normal year. Though we're starting to see the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, it's still going to have a huge impact on a lot of things we'd normally take for granted. We've already seen many award shows take different approaches to doing things in a socially-distant way, and now we're gonna see the Oscars take a stab at that, too.

They haven't said where exactly yet, but according to an academy spokesperson, the Oscars are going to broadcast live from multiple locations this year. This is likely a way to have some sort of in-person element but keeping it socially distant. The Golden Globes are doing something similar, with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler doing their thing from New York and Los Angeles, respectively.

There's no word yet on where or how many locations the Oscars may be broadcasting from, so here's my pitch: why don't they stick one of those spots in Missoula? Think about it: we're becoming a more popular spot for film and television productions, and since they're not airing until April, you could do it in a big outdoor venue like the Kettlehouse Amphitheater or Ogren Park.

Is it unlikely? Yeah, maybe - I wouldn't be surprised if we found out they just ended up booking three separate buildings in LA. But you know what, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. This is officially me calling upon the Academy to bring the Oscars to Missoula.

(And if you do, I should get a free ticket. I mean, it was my idea!)
