The Sapphire Complex is comprised of the Goat Creek, Little Hogback, and Sliderock fires and all three are currently active. According to Fire Information Officer Greg Denitto, the fires were more controlled on Wednesday.

“The Sapphire Complex was a quiet day yesterday relatively speaking,” said Denitto. “We had an inversion here which held the smoke in and kind of put a cap on the fires. It didn’t really release until later in the afternoon. The fires still were active, but less than they had been for several days.”

Denitto says the Sliderock fire is at 5% containment, but the Little Hogback and the Goat Creek fires are currently at 0% containment. As a result, some evacuation orders have been put in place.

“The Rock Creek corridor is under a yellow warning and it is a pre evacuation notification, you should be prepared to evacuate,” Denitto said. “There is actually a red mandatory evacuation for some structures up around Sliderock, but those have not been occupied.”

The Sapphire Complex has spread approximately 6,626 acres and Denitto doesn’t expect these fires to be out anytime soon.
