Tenacious D Announce New Album With Dave Grohl + Animated Series
The comedic rock duo composed of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, Tenacious D, is preparing for a mighty return bolstered by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums. In November, the metal-loving acoustic guitar-strumming team will release the new album, Post-Apocalypto, and in the fall they'll debut a new six-episode animated series on their YouTube channel.
Post-Apocalypto, which comes out November 2, was produced by John Spiker and will be available to fans digitally, on CD and on translucent green vinyl. The six-episode animated series will launch September 28 and new episodes will post each Friday.
The animated series was hand-drawn by Black and all of the characters were voiced by Black and Gass. All of the episodes will feature songs from the upcoming Tenacious D album.
"Post-Apocalypto finds Tenacious D thrust into a world of complete and utter destruction following the drop of an atomic bomb," reads a press release. "Surviving the attack in classic cinematic fashion (a good old imperishable 1950’s refrigerator), the duo quickly learns that new forms of evil have spawned from the blast. One thing becomes apparent — for humanity to prevail, Tenacious D must save the world.”
The storylines include travel in a time machine, a visit to the White House and a space adventure. "'Post-Apocalypto' is as hilarious as it is political and as brilliant and multi-faceted as its incredible creators," the possibly biased statement continues. "The songs are damn good, too.”
Tenacious D formed in 1994 and released their self-titled first album in 2001. Post-Apocalypto will be the group's fourth album, the follow-up to 2012's Rize of the Fenix.
The duo will launch a North American tour this fall, starting October 6 in San Bernardino, Californias and wrapping up December 31 in Las Vegas.
