Stone Temple Pilots Complete ‘Beautiful’ New Album
But as the anticipated follow-up to the alt-rockers' 2018 self-titled album, the upcoming collection won't be a completely acoustic record, an idea to which STP members had previously hinted. Instead, the "beautiful" and "different" new album — as the musician described it — will contain a crop of fresh material, a point the singer underscored near the end of interview. Listen to it down toward the bottom of this post.
"There's no rules on it having to be acoustic or anything, it just has a vibe to it," Gutt said of the imminent Stone Temple Pilots LP. "It's very instrumental. … It's beautiful. It's actually finished, it's all new songs."
Prior to the set's release, however, the band will be reissuing their classic album Purple, a process which will push back the new one. With no release date currently fixed, the new album's presumed to drop in 2020.
"With the Purple thing happening, it's pushing back the other thing," Gutt admitted. "We were only supposed to do a few songs and it turned into a full record 'cause we had so much creativity happening at the time, so we just made a whole record. It's definitely different. But it's a very beautiful record, and I'm really happy with it."
Purple, STP's second album, originally came out in 1994. Containing the hits "Big Empty," "Vaseline" and "Interstate Love Song," the effort was a high point for the act when led by late frontman Scott Weiland.
The “Super Deluxe Edition” of Purple is due out Sept. 13. Meanwhile, catch the Pilots on tour in the United States later this year with a little help from Rival Sons — get ticketing info for the tour right here.
