Another "do not miss" Autumn event in the Bitterroot Valley is the Stevensville Main Street Association's "Scarecrow Festival" starting next weekend.

However, the deadline to get your entry registered is today, Friday, September 30, at the Stevensville Main Street Association office on Main Street, next to the Driver's Exam office. Or, until midnight September 29th, you can register online at the Stevensville Main Street website.

Entry fee is $30 and there are two main categories: commercial (businesses can include a small commercial sign) and non-commercial (for organizations, groups and families).

The scarecrows, many of them NOT scary, will be set up on the bike path along the Cut-off Road between US 93 and the north end of Stevensville. This year, some of the scarecrows will be in the business district, in front of downtown businesses.

The First Friday crowd October 5th will be first to see and vote on their favorite scarecrows. Voting continues through 2 p.m. Saturday, October 6. The entries will be lit at night. The scarecrows will be removed after 2 p.m. Saturday October 14.

Awards include "Peoples' Choice" and "Most Original." The winners will be announced Monday, October 9.

Besides the opening night of scarecrows, there will be a Kids Parade at 5 p.m. Friday, along with a pumpkin carving contest. Saturday, October 6, Stevensville will have a straw maze, bouncy house, giant slide, pumpkin bowling and farmers market. They're all part of the Scarecrow Festival.
