How To Practice Self-Care After The Storm
To say that this past month has been chaotic would be an understatement. I feel like whenever I look at social media or look at the news I am filled with anxiety from both local and national news. I know I am not the only one who felt that anxiety.
After the storm hit, I hit my breaking point even after my power turned on. I couldn’t go to the golf course and the traffic was so bad I wanted to rip my hair out. I knew it was time for some self-care.
You’re Not Alone
Spending time with friends and/or family. When learning breaking news online it makes one feel very isolated. Having people around can alleviate some of that anxiety and make you remember you are not alone during this breaking news cycle.
Move Your Body
Yoga combines stretching your body and meditation. Even if it is just a pose as simple as a child’s pose can help calm you down.
Touch Grass
I always say “I need to go touch grass” when I feel caught up in something. Then I go out and I touch grass for anywhere from five minutes to an hour. I think it’s important to go touch grass or just be outside during stressful times. Unless it's too hot, smokey, or trees or powerlines have fallen down.
Cleaning
The water system was on generators because the power was down and many Missoulians still had no power. There are still some neighborhoods without power, but most neighborhoods do. Now is the time to run the dishwasher, do some laundry, or take a long hot shower.
These past two weeks have been stressful on an international level and local level. Please be sure to take care of yourself. Self-care looks different for everyone, but here are a couple of my recommendations.
