Def Leppard, Rage Against the Machine and the MC5 are among the hard rock and alternative rock bands nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. The 2019 ballot, released earlier this morning, snubs classic heavy metal bands: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Slayer and Pantera are among the artists who are eligible, but not included. Other notable artists who didn't make the ballot include Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, the New York Dolls, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Ice-T, Hole, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins and Alice In Chains.

Here are the artists who did make the ballot besides Def Leppard, Rage Against The Machine and the MC5: new wave icons Devo, pop superstar Janet Jackson, alt-country singer/songwriter John Prine, electronic pioneers Kraftwerk, hip-hop legend LL Cool J, experimental '90s rock superstars Radiohead, experimental '70s band Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks (who is already a Hall of Famer with Fleetwood Mac), goth rockers the Cure, singer/songwriter/multi-media artist Todd Rundgren, '70s funk group Rufus & Chaka Khan and '60s British Invasion band the Zombies.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Inductees will be announced in December 2018. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Induction Ceremony will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on March 29, 2019. Ticket on-sale information will be announced in January.
