Poverello Center to Serve Grab-and-Go Meals on Thanksgiving

I've been at the grocery store a few times this week and you can definitely tell that Thanksgiving is on the way. Every other cart I see is full of elements for upcoming turkey dinners. Yep, there will be plenty of feasts happening on Thursday......and as we get wrapped up in our own plans it's easy to forget about those that aren't able to provide a Thanksgiving meal for themselves or their family.

There's plenty of fundraising efforts that are taking place around town. The Missoula Food Bank has seen a large increase in the number of people looking to use their services because of the pandemic, and they just wrapped up their big push for turkey donations to help those in need this Thanksgiving. You've probably seen the prepackaged meals that are available for purchase in stores, been asked to donate at the checkout, or passed a Salvation Army bell ringer on your way out. It's rather alarming when you realize how many people need assistance just to put food on the table.

Another option for those needing help with food this Thanksgiving is grab-and-go boxes that will be provided by the Poverello Center. They'll be distributed on Thanksgiving from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Pov - and also available at the Johnson Street emergency shelter from 12 PM to 4 PM.

There will also be limited seating available for dine-in meals - as outlined in part of a press release from the Poverello Center.

With reduced seating capacity to ensure social distancing, dine-in meals will be provided at the Poverello Center on Thanksgiving day from 11am to 5pm. At the same time, people who do not feel comfortable dining in can receive meals ready to go that can be carried out and enjoyed wherever is most comfortable for individuals and families. From 12pm to 4pm grab-and-go meals will also be available at the Johnson Street Emergency Shelter.
