Scholarships were awarded last week at a special presentation by Soroptimist International of Hamilton. The awards of varying amounts were given to women who were seeking further education - whether it was entering college classes or continuing into advanced degrees. And there was special recognition of a woman who has made a difference in helping women in the community. Stephanie Beck won the Ruby Award for her years of continual effort.

On the younger end of the age scale, five high school girls were given awards for their community service - Elizabeth Varner, Ivy Semple, Sydney Powell, Alis Auch and Maizie Mendenall. Other awards included: Patti Furniss Scholarships to Krista Hayward and Laura Newby, the Pro-tech/phlobotomy awards went to Sue Major and Sydni Rose, Options award to Denise Dandridge, Fellowship to Laura Wathen and two winners in the "Live Your Dream" award - Jody Waliser and Hannah Wilson. The local Soroptimist group is trying to increase their award amounts each year and has received support from the Greater Ravalli Foundation.
