One Decade Ago This Week: Foo Fighters Rock Missoula
Thursday, May 11 of 2011 was a day Missoulians will never forget. Dave, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami blew minds and ears at the Adams Center for a full 210 minutes. And that was AFTER a full Biffy Clyro set and hour long performance by the legendary Lemmy Kilmister and Motörhead. We called it Foozoola. And it was freakin' AWESOME.
Let's get this tidbit out of the way first. There was talk that I would get to meet the band the day of the show, I didn't really believe it, figured they'd be way too busy for an interview with a small town radio station. But they really did arrange for an interview, that I was not prepared for, and you'd think that a fanatic wouldn't need to prepare, I could just bullshit with them off the top of my head, but I effing panicked. Star struck. Ruined. Mind erased. And I botched the entire meeting, however, we did manage to get the sweet prom photo seen below. But believe me, the whole thing still haunts me to this very day. I malfunctioned.
We relaunched The Blaze as "96.3 The Foo" and played only Foo related bands and artists all day, including the entire Foo catalog, Sunny Day Real Estate, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, No Use For A Name, Germs, Meat Puppets, Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of the Stone Age's 'Songs for the Deaf' album, which Dave drums on, Killing Joke, and Scream. Even our website switched to 963thefoo.com - we still own the domain if you wanna try it.
I had promised the promoter that the show would sell out if he could book it, but it didn't. It didn't sell out. Foo effing Fighters at the Adams Center did not sell all the tickets. I mean, yes, it was 2011 before they really grew into the massive stadium rock icons they are today, but goddamn, LEMMY was there. Those of us in attendance were treated to a very memorable night, they just kept playing. Cover songs. Extended versions. Solos. You can see the full set list below. They typically play two or more hours at any Foo show, but at three and a half hours, a lot of people went home because it was just too much awesome for their faces. As one long time listener and former non-Foo fan put it after the show, "Angel, I get it now." Yeah you do.
Happy 10th Anniversary to all who were in attendance, I still see y'all out there in your Foozoola shirts, and I LOVE it!!
