Northern Lights Were Over Western Montana
The skies cleared overnight in the Bitterroot Valley and photographer Mike Daniels ventured out to see if the Northern Lights were visible. They were! The green glow to the north was visible over the Missoula lights in the photo above.
Though the Sun is in a solar minimum for sunspots, there is a chance for more aurora Friday night. Spaceweather.com reports: "The solar wind is flowing from a large hole in the sun's atmosphere, with speeds currently topping 600 km/s. Forecasters expect our planet to remain inside the gaseous stream for at least 24 more hours. Arctic sky watchers should remain alert for auroras through Oct. 26th." So, if the clouds clear, you might see some aurora Friday night.
