On April 1, 2022, at approximately 7:34 a.m., a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a residence after 911 dispatch received a text message from a female requesting help. The female informed dispatch that 30-year-old Lyle St. Goddard Jr. had threatened to kill her and throw her off a balcony.

St. Goddard was located, placed in handcuffs, and escorted from the building. The officer observed the female holding her one-year-old baby. The female was afraid and anxious. Court documents indicate she began crying and her body trembled. The female told officers that St. Goddard is her baby’s father and that St. Goddard was living with them in their apartment until March 20, 2022.

The morning of April 1, the female and baby were sleeping in their bedroom when the female heard the door open. She knew it was St. Goddard because he was the only other person with a key to the apartment. The female began to panic because St. Goddard had been sending her numerous vulgar and threatening texts in the days leading up to this event. One of the messages said, “I'll f*****g kill some body don't f**k with me I'm coming for you two".

St. Goddard began grabbing the female on her right side while she was lying on the bed. The female attempted to fight St. Goddard off and to protect the baby. The female tried to reach for her phone to call 911, but St. Goddard took it, tried to break it, and then threw it in the toilet. St. Goddard then broke two of the female’s computers. Next, St. Goddard hit the female in her right eye and the right side of her mouth.

After being hit, the female went into her bedroom because St. Goddard kept “coming at” her. She explained that she was scared, but remembered that she was wearing her Apple watch, so she messaged 911 for help. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Missoula County dispatch has the ability to receive text messages,” Arnold. “Dispatch started receiving 911 texts from a person saying they needed help. They received a text message that also said they couldn’t physically call 911. Officers arrived on scene and Lyle St. Goddard was taken into custody over a domestic related incident. This was a domestic related physical disturbance with injury and the fear of injury. On scene, officers were able to collect statements, observe the scene of the physical disturbance, and collect evidence of the incident.”

At one point, St. Goddard came toward her and threatened to throw her off the balcony. The female confirmed that she was holding the baby throughout the altercation and that St. Goddard could have easily injured the baby.

The female stated she believed St. Goddard was intending to throw her off the balcony and that she would have been “seriously injured” if he managed to do so. The female also reported that St. Goddard threatened to light her parent’s house on fire and harm her father. Over the last several days, St. Goddard sent the female over 100 text messages and called her over 200 times.

St. Goddard is currently being charged with felony aggravated assault, partner or family member assault, endangering the welfare of children, criminal destruction of or tampering with a communication device, privacy in communications, criminal mischief, and stalking.
