The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 20 new criminal complaints this week. County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said she is concerned because the number of crimes against persons has been on the rise for three straight weeks.

“We charged five interpersonal violence crimes and four of those were partner of family member assaults,” Pabst said. “One was a strangulation case. In the non-family crime category, we charged four assault cases and one was an assault with a weapon. In one case, the victim was a roommate. In another, it was a road rage incident. There was also an attack in a public park, which is obviously concerning.”

Pabst said her office also charged two new sex crimes.

“One was a sexual abuse of children, two counts,” Pabst said. “There was another undercover operation involving an agent that was posing as a 13-year-old. In the other case, it was a sexual intercourse without consent case. In the endangerment category, we charged two felony DUIs, which are fourth or subsequent offenses.”

According to Pabst, there were three new property crimes as well.

“One was a theft that involved embezzlement from unemployment insurance,” Pabst said. “There were two deceptive practices of forgery cases. In one, the defendant allegedly stole the victim’s checks and debit card and racked up quite a bit of bills. Finally, in the drugs crime category we charged four new cases and they all involved possession of methamphetamine.”

Two of those drug cases also happened to involve driving while under the influence. You can listen to Pabst's entire report below.
