Monday’s blizzard with it’s snow and flash-frozen roads that led to over 50 crashes in just 24 hours has also sent hundreds of customers rushing to area tire shops to have their snow tires mounted.

KGVO called several of the tire shops in Missoula on Tuesday afternoon and the numbers are impressive.

At both Les Schwab Tire Centers, Todd said there were approximately 220 vehicles that had their snow tire installed over the last 24 hours.

Doug at Brooks Street Tirerama estimated they would be handling over 50 changeovers on Tuesday alone.

Kevin at Firestone Auto Care said they’ve done 60 snow tire changeovers in the last two days.

Diane at Roemers Tire Center said her crews are averaging nearly 50 vehicles per day.

At Whalen Tire, Tom said they’ll do between 65 and 70 on Tuesday alone.

All the stores remarked that this is the earliest they’ve had such a frantic rush to have snow tires installed in recent memory, this only being October 29.

Now that the blizzard has come and gone, weather for the rest of the week calls for sunshine with highs returning to the mid to upper 40’s by the weekend, but at least all those drivers will be ready for winter when it arrives in earnest.
