Where to Take Your Family Roller Skating in Missoula
In December our local Hellgate Roller Derby returned with the great news that they had nailed down a spacious new practice space and invited everyone out for an open skate just to check things out. It went so well that they're going to keep it going! Their practice space is at 500 East Spruce in the building across from Black Coffee Roasting Company near the Madison Street tracks. I love that charming little part of town.
Upcoming open skate events are as follows.
Friday (3/11) 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for ages 18+
Sunday (3/13) 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. for families and beginners
Saturday (3/26) 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. for families and beginners
Saturday (3/26) 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for ages 12+
Deets
It's $7 to participate and $3 to rent skates, but keep in mind, there are limited sizes available and it's first come first served. You are encouraged to bring your own skates if you have them and both 4-wheeled and inline skates are welcome. All events are alcohol and drug-free and Hellgate Roller Derby skaters are on hand to keep things moving. The space is sanitized before and after each session and don't forget a water bottle.
So, when are we going to get to watch Hellgate Roller Derby in action again?
That's hard to say. Currently, the skaters are just so grateful to have found a practice space. They're going to continue to do some fundraising thanks to incredible local businesses like Orange Street Food Farm and Western Cider, and keep working to increase their skills. If you want to get involved, Hellgate Roller Derby is always recruiting skaters, referees, non-skating officials, as well as volunteers. They are a truly incredible and diverse group who are proud to carry on the tradition of roller derby, we're excited to see where 2022 takes them!
