29 year-old Christopher Stickney is being held in the Missoula County Jail on $70,000 bail after allegedly attacking another man with a long bladed steak knife.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Kaitlin Williams asked substitute Justice of the Peace Ellie Hill-Smith for $100,000 bail.

“This defendant is charged with assault with a weapon for trying to attack another person with an eight-inch kitchen knife,” said Williams. “This is the defendant’s fourth open felony. In one of his other cases he was also charged with two counts of assault with a weapon for trying to stab two other individuals.”

Williams emphasized to the judge the danger of allowing Stickney out of custody.

“This defendant clearly has anger and or substance abuse issues,” she continued. “If this defendant were to be released or post bail, the state would request that he be ordered on to pretrial supervision, drug testing, have no weapons and no contact with the victim, along with other standard conditions.”

Stickney was arrested on August 7 and charged with felony assault with a weapon and resisting arrest after threatening several hikers on the Kim Williams trail with a knife.

Judge Hill-Smith set bail at $50,000 to run consecutive with the $20 already set by another judge in the previous case for a total of $70,000 bail.

Stickney was remanded back to the jail and his next court appearance will be in February.
