Missoula Fire Dept Reminder: Check Smoke Detector Batteries

Did your day start by making your way around the house and changing the time on a few clocks?

Missoula City Fire Department is reminding us all to use daylight savings as a day to also check smoke detectors.

I'm pretty bad when it comes to checking smoke detectors around the house.  It's usually the chirp of a detector with dying batteries that will jog my memory to check the others.

Experts recommend you pick a day - such as daylight savings - that will remind you to change the batteries in your smoke detectors on a regular basis.

Missoula City Fire Captain Bill Bennett suggests testing batteries monthly, changing batteries annually, and replacing smoke detectors every 10 years.  And when it comes to those batteries, Bennett suggests changing them if you think it's needed or not.
