Minnesota Twins Announce Second Annual ‘Prince Night’ Event
Prince's hometown baseball team will pay public tribute to one of Minnesota's favorite sons when the Twins host their second annual Prince Night during the 2018 MLB season.
According to the league's website, this year's Prince Night is scheduled for June 8, a day after what would have been Prince's 60th birthday, and will include a variety of Prince-themed celebrations. The first 10,000 people to enter the team's Target Field for the game against the Los Angeles Angels that day will receive an inflatable purple guitar, fashioned in the shape of Prince's trademark symbol; during the seventh-inning stretch, those patrons are encouraged to stand and illuminate the guitars during what's described as "a special moment of remembrance."
Fans also have the option of buying tickets as part of an exclusive Prince Theme Night package that adds the special limited-run extra piece of swag — "a co-themed Prince/Twins purple hat with ghost paisley print on front two panels" — that's pictured above. Prices range from $26 for home run porch seats to $81 for the home plate mid-level box.
As the Minnesota Star Tribune notes, the inaugural Prince Night at the park proved a resounding success, with thousands of fans turning out to help pay tribute — and try to get their hands on one of 10,000 special Prince-themed umbrellas, some of which have since hit the secondary market for prices in excess of $100.
In addition to the one-night-only Prince gear that will be given out on June 8, the Twins have announced plans to sell "Prince-related merchandise" — a product line that will reportedly include hats and shirts as well as baseballs — all season long. According to the Star Tribune, fans can purchase those items exclusively at Target Field starting April 5, when the team hosts its home opener against the Seattle Mariners.
