Montana Senator Urges Commanders to Use the Blackfeet Logo
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - When the Washington Redskins changed their name to the Commanders, the iconic Blackfeet logo was also removed; however, Montana senator Steve Daines is once again encouraging the Commanders to keep the logo.
I spoke to Senator Daines at his office in Washington, D.C., early Wednesday morning.
Daines asks Commanders to Keep the Iconic Blackfeet Logo
“There's a tremendous connection, of course, to Montana, because that logo that was on the uniforms for many, many years is Chief Two Guns White Calf, a Blackfeet chief from Montana,” began Daines. It's a source of pride for Indian country. However, sadly, the NFL and the team capitulated to ‘woke political correctness’, and instead, they should be restoring, in my opinion, that logo.”

Daines said the support is strong in Montana and throughout the Native American community nationwide.
Daines said the Blackfeet Tribe Encourages the Commanders to Keep the Logo
“I'll tell you what, there's a lot of support from Indian country,” he said. “We've got support from the Blackfeet tribe, the Wetzel family, including the grandfather who actually drew the art for that logo. So we're involved in that, and we're fighting on behalf of the Blackfeet tribe and the people of Montana.”
Daines said he and President Trump are working to restore the original name and logo for the Washington football team.
Daines said the President Favors the Name Change but He Favors the Iconic Logo
“President Trump is working on the name change, and I'm working on the logo change,” he said. “That logo is a source of pride for Montana, for Indian country, for the Blackfeet tribe. Specifically, it would be great to see when the Cowboys play the Commanders on Christmas Day this year. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see those Dallas Cowboy stars lined up across with the great Chief Two Guns White Calf logo on the Commanders' helmets?”

Daines also commented on how President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will help the average Montanan.

“By the way, for the average Montana family, it's going to be about $1,800 a year in savings in taxes,” he said. “And with President Trump's leadership of not taxing Social Security, that was something he wanted to put in the bill, which is in there; 88 percent of senior citizens will not be paying taxes on their Social Security benefits.”
Daines is the senior Senator from Montana, and is a member of the U.S. Senate’s Indian Affairs Committee.
