Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 22, 2023, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a convenience store on South Reserve Street for the report of an assault with a weapon. When the officer arrived, he spoke to an employee who said the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Seth Toelke, had come into the store for matches.

The employee gave Seth some matches and Seth left without incident. Seth then loitered near the entrance, presumably searching for cigarette butts. Seth then kicked off his shoes and walked towards the vehicles of other patrons.

Another employee asked Seth to leave, and he did for about five minutes. However, then patrons at the casino observed Seth urinating near the exterior of the store. The employee confronted Seth and told him to leave.

The employee said Seth mumbled something like, “I’ll be back for you bro.” Shortly thereafter, Seth brandished what was believed to be a knife, took a step toward the employee, and stated something like, “I’ll carve you up.”

Seth then walked away from the front of the entrance. The employee said he was worried about the safety of other patrons and thought Seth could have thrown the knife at him. In a follow up interview with the employee, he explained further that they were approximately 6-7 feet apart when Seth pulled the knife.

Another officer responded and helped detain Seth. According to court documents, a knife was located in Seth’s front right jacket pocket. Another officer recognized Seth from multiple recent interactions. Seth was not questioned further at that time.

A Detective reached out to the jail about interviewing Seth. He was advised that Seth was placed in maximum security due to an outburst about not receiving food outside of normal eating hours. Seth was accordingly unavailable to be interviewed.

This case is being filed direct to District Court and Seth is currently being charged with felony assault with a weapon.
