On August 7, 2022, at approximately 8:38 am, Missoula Police Department officers responded to the Albertsons on North Reserve for the report of assault with a weapon. The officer spoke with the victim who reported that he worked at the store. Other staff advised the victim that a transient male had been on the property since 6:00 am.

The male was loitering and told the victim that he was waiting to charge his phone. The male used the store’s bathroom and then exited. The male had a Walmart shopping cart full of products. The victim did not know if the male had any Albertsons merchandise and did not accuse him of shoplifting because he did not witness anything. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Kurt Kingsley is being held on charges of assault with a weapon and additional charges after pulling a knife in the Albertsons parking lot on a person,” Arnold said. “The victim had asked Kingsley to leave the store for loitering. Kingsley walked away, but began to put items from a Walmart cart into a child’s Albertsons cart. The victim asked Kingsley to not take the cart from the property.”

According to court documents, Kingsley was on edge and repeatedly cursed at the victim. The victim asked Kingsley to leave the property. Kingsley cursed at the victim again and said, "I will see you after work.”

“Kingsley made aggressive and threatening comments and spit on the victim’s face,” Arnold said. “Out of defense, the victim punched Kingsley. Kingsley grabbed a knife and brandished the knife at the victim while making additional threatening comments. Officers were able to collect the weapon used and reviewed the video surveillance. Kingsley was taken into custody. During a search incident to arrest, a pipe believed to be used to smoke methamphetamine was located on Kingsley’s person.”

Kingsley is currently being charged with felony assault with a weapon, assault, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft.
