Want to Be Part of the New Missoula Equity Advisory Board?

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The JEDI (Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion) program came into existence about three years ago in Missoula, and now city and county officials are seeking individuals who want to serve on the new Equity Advisory Board.

KGVO News spoke to JEDI Specialist Alex Lawson recently about the effort to form the new board.

City and County Officials seek Members of new JEDI Advisory Board

“Back in 2021, both city and county passed a resolution advocating that these values, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, would be at the forefront of our operations in how we're making decisions and ensuring that all members of our community are receiving equitable access to resources in order that they have their full potential to thrive in our community,” began Lawson.

For those who are unfamiliar with the purpose of the JEDI program, Lawson provided a brief reminder.

“Some of the populations that we would consider have not had great representation historically or have been actively marginalized would be members of the BIPOC, that’s communities of black and indigenous people of color, the LGBTQIA plus community, aging residents, folks who may have a disability, and people of low income background,” she said.

Lawson provided the requirements for those who wish to be on the JEDI Advisory Board.

Qualifications for Those wanting to be on the JEDI Advisory Board

“You do have to be a resident of Missoula County,” she said. However, as we know, that's much broader than just the city of Missoula. So we would love to actually have some representation from our more outlying rural areas. You must be a Missoula County resident, and our application is available online through the county website. If a paper copy is a better option for somebody, they can pick up one, either through the county or through City Hall.”
