Missoula Crime Report: Lots of Strangulation Cases This Week
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 18 new criminal complaints this week, which is six less than last week and right around the weekly average. Deputy County Attorney Mac Bloom provided a report to our Talk Back audience on Friday.
“Seven of those cases were violent crimes and crimes against persons,” Bloom said. “Three of them were endangerment-type crimes and five of them were property crimes. We had one drug case and then two administrative crime cases.”
Of those seven personal violence cases, six involved family violence or strangulation.
“Unfortunately, it was a busy week for domestic violence type cases,” Bloom said. “We charged 12 in custody cases, meaning that they were arrested and taken to jail when they were charged. Then we charged six out of custody cases where they were not in custody at the time that we filed.”
The Missoula County Attorney’s Office continues to work hard clearing a backlog of trials that got set back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Bloom, he is working on a trial that is scheduled to begin Monday morning.
“It is an assault with a weapon case and should last about two days,” Bloom said. “The office has been kind of pulling together, getting ready, helping prep that, and prepping exhibits. So we're just getting ready for that on Monday.”
