Man Attacks Man at a Missoula Bar Over a Pair of Sunglasses
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 19, 2022, 58-year-old Michael Quinn was contacted by Missoula Police Department officers regarding an altercation at a local bar. Officers also contacted the male victim who had visible injuries to his face. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold has more.
“Officers responded to a report of a physical disturbance in the 400 block of North Higgins,” Arnold said. “Officers were flagged down by witnesses as they arrived on scene and the witnesses pointed out the suspect male, Michael Quinn, as he walked away. Quinn was detained by officers and provided a statement. During the preliminary investigation, officers spoke to the victim and witnesses. Quinn was taken into custody and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center.”
According to court documents, the victim said Quinn asked to see a pair of sunglasses belonging to the victim. The victim agreed and when he asked for his glasses back, Quinn refused to return them. Quinn said that he had commissioned the glasses for his girlfriend and that they were later stolen from her car.
The victim denied Quinn’s allegations and reached for the glasses. At that time, Quinn pushed and struck the victim, causing the victim to fall back and hit his head. While the victim was on the ground, Quinn threw a chair at him.
A witness in the bar saw Quinn kicking and trying to “boot stomp” the victim on the ground. The victim said that Quinn stood over him in a threatening manner and the victim said he felt threatened Quinn would continue to assault and harm him. Quinn later left the bar in possession of the sunglasses.
When contacted by law enforcement, Quinn told officers he believed that the sunglasses had been stolen from his girlfriend. Court documents indicate Quinn told officers that the victim “came at him” in an “aggressive” manner and said, “I took his glasses homeboy, so I’m in the wrong, but those are mines. THOSE ARE MINES.”
Quinn is currently being charged with felony robbery and felony aggravated assault.
