Drunk Driver Ignores Warning, Causes a Collision in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 13, 2026, at approximately 12:42 p.m., Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to 2610 North Reserve Street after a call into 911 by Braeden reported a possibly intoxicated driver. Braeden explained that he observed a white Subaru Forester pulling into the bank parking lot and almost struck another vehicle. Braeden added that the driver of the vehicle was a white female who was walking as “very slow” and “trying to compose herself.”
Braeden stated that he contacted the female and advised her that she should “probably not drive” as she was getting back into her car. Braeden explained that the female said she was “fine” and then sped out of the parking lot.
An officer, who had arrived to investigate, viewed surveillance video of Braeden’s interaction with the driver. The officer positively identified the driver as 29-year-old Breanna Brester. Brester took the turn into the parking stall too wide, parked crooked, and also hit the curb with her front passenger side tire.

At 12:43, dispatch relayed a second call for service for a motor vehicle collision that had occurred at Palmer Street and North Reserve. The collision involved a white Subaru Forester. Dispatch linked the two calls for the belief that it involved the same female reported by Braeden.
An officer arrived on scene and contacted Brester, who was standing in front of a white Subaru Forester with front-end damage. Brester was crying as she spoke with an accident investigator. As the officer approached Brester, he observed that her clothes were soiled and dirty. Brester had a stain in the middle of her shirt and large stains on both of her pant legs.
Brester Explains How the Crash Happened
The officer asked Brester how the collision had occurred. As Brester explained the collision, the officer observed her speech to be slurred and that her eyes appeared glazed over and slowed. Brester would point to indicate directions while explaining the collision, and the officer noted that her movement appeared unsteady and slowed.
The officer also noticed that Brester did not make a great deal of sense as she explained what caused the vehicle collision. Ultimately, Brester stated that, “I was pulling out a little bit and then I thought they were stopping, so I thought I could go straight and they weren't stuck, so I couldn't go straight. And that was when the rear end happened.”
The officer asked Brester if she had anything to drink today, and she claimed that she hadn't. The officer then requested that Brester participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, to which Brester agreed. On the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, the officer observed 6 of 6 indicators of impairment. On the Walk and Turn test, the officer observed 8 of 8 indicators of impairment. The remainder of the tests could not be conducted.

Then the officer read Brester a Preliminary Alcohol Screening Test Advisory, to which Brester refused to provide a breath sample. Officer Schlenker placed Brester under arrest for DUI and read her an Implied Consent Form. Brester refused to take a blood test. A search warrant was obtained, and Brester was taken to St. Patrick’s Hospital for a blood draw.
Then she was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. She is currently being charged with felony DUI. Her bond was set at $20,000.
