Drunk Driver Damages Several Yards and Fences in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 1, 2025, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that crashed through someone’s fence and backyard near Parker Court. A truck drove through three yards.
The complainant reported that he was awoken in the early morning to the sound of a truck trying to reverse out of his fence and yard. He came out on his porch and observed his neighbor, who works in law enforcement, putting the male driver into handcuffs. The complainant’s fence was heavily damaged. He has a young child and family, but no one was in the yard at the time.
His neighbor reported that she was getting ready to go to work when a red truck came through her yard. There was damage to her yard spanning its entire length including knocking over and dragging planters and a large stump. The stump ripped portions of the truck’s transmission. She almost had gone to check her mail before work and said she would have been hit by the truck if she had done so.
Damage was also done to a third residence, but they were not home. A rock retaining wall was strewn across a driveway and some decorative lights were in the neighbor’s yard. The damage is expected to exceed $1,500 in value.
The officer learned that the truck had already been reported as being operated by an impaired driver. The driver of the truck was identified as 20-year-old Riley Allen by his license. Allen declined medical attention and had a difficult time standing. He had slurred speech, his eyes were red and watery, and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

According to court documents, Allen admitted that he had three tequila and soda drinks. He agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests and showed 13 out of 14 indicators of impairment on the HGN test and the walk and turn test. Allen was having difficulty standing so the officer did not ask him to do the one leg stand test.
After being read the PAST advisory, Allen agreed to provide a portable breath test, which was .219% BrAC. Allen was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.
Allen is currently being charged with felony criminal mischief, aggravated DUI, and reckless driving.
