Andrea Davis Talks Property Tax Controversy, Homelessness in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - KGVO News recently spoke to mayoral candidate Andrea Davis on two important topics, property taxes and homelessness. Davis sees the dynamic between the state of Montana and the counties over property taxes, with lawsuits by the state against over 50 counties.

“I find this to be a historical moment in our state, quite frankly, I've never seen such a dynamic with the association of counties across the state of Montana and the governor's office,” she said. “I think it really points to the fact that the legislature did not focus on what some key and critical issues are for Montanans, and that of course affects Missoula, Missoula County, and the Missoula County taxpayers.”
Regarding the homeless situation in Missoula, Davis says she sees the division the issue is causing in the community.

“People want a solution, and we know that there's not just one,” she said. “If there had been one solution, it would have been done by now. We would have done it by now, right, and other communities would have done it by now. I do hear the concern people have and I respect it where I think a lot of folks say how is it that we can get the more accountability (by homeless persons) associated with the situation?”
Davis said she understands the community’s frustration over the issue of homelessness.
“How can we make sure that we're both providing people what they need to get connected to basic services and wherewithal for stable living and also have accountability for how to move forward with being able to have a stable home, being able to connect with a job, or being able to connect with family again. I see this as a crisis we're in right now in Missoula and other communities as well and in Montana, and the region.”
