
From Campsite to Custody: Wanted Man Caught in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 2, 2025, at approximately 6:04 p.m., a Missoula Police Department officer responded to an address after receiving a report that a male was setting up a campsite on the complainant’s property. Upon arrival, the officer located a male who matched the suspect’s description and was standing on the sidewalk next to the property.
The suspect provided the name “Justin Hensyel.” Dispatch advised the officer that Justin is 6’0” tall and weighs 240 pounds. The suspect was considerably smaller in both height and weight. Other officers informed the officer that he might be speaking with Joshua Hensyel, who has a $75,000 warrant.
At that time, another male, who appeared to be friends with the suspect, approached and informed the officer that the suspect’s name is Josh. The officer detained the suspect and later positively identified him as 35-year-old Joshua Hensyel using a prior booking photo.

During a search incident to arrest, the officer located a small plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine in Hensyel’s pocket. According to court documents, Hensyel admitted it was methamphetamine.
Hensyel’s probation officer requested a further search of Hensyel and his property. Other officers arrived on scene to assist with the search of Hensyel’s property, which consisted of numerous backpacks/bags. The following items were located, among other things:
- 1.37g total package weight of presumptive positive methamphetamine
- 1.06g total package weight of presumptive positive methamphetamine
- 1.42g total package weight of presumptive positive methamphetamine
- 2 pocket-sized digital scales
- Multiple clear baggies with residue and cotton balls
- Approximately 20 meth pipes and tooter straws
- Black bag with a broken meth pipe and tooter straws
Some of the methamphetamine was tested and presumptively confirmed using the TruNarc scanner.

Hensyel was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $75,000 for a failure to appear.
