This Missoula bakery is already one of the most popular and busiest places in the Garden City.

But Bernice's Bakery will be even busier than usual this year as its long-planned renovation and expansion project is finally underway.

When it's done, this beloved bakery will have a fresh new look and lots of additional capacity and seating options to crunch a croissant or savor a slice of cake.

Bernice's birthday is coming

The owners of Bernice's have been working on the retrofitting and changes for the past couple of years and plan to have the big project complete in time for a grand re-opening in July, which will be the business's 47th birthday (we hope there's cake!).

But through that nearly half-century of service, the growing popularity has meant that getting a seat can be a challenge during certain times of the day.

Inside and outside, improvements planned

The first order of business is constructing a new sidewalk across the front of the building, along with moving furniture and starting interior demolition. That work is already underway, and while the bakery is still open, customers will need to use the side door. That's eventually going to be replaced by a new ADA-compliant entrance.

Later, in April and May, workers will be finishing the sidewalk, doing framing, and completing the exterior masonry work.

More seating

In June, work will focus on finishing the conversion of the old patio area into new seating, with the new Atrium seating finished in July. Then, the original interior seating will be spruced up for the mid-summer opening.
