One of Montana's most unique fishing tournaments is ready to launch its spring edition.

It's the spring lake trout fishing tourney, "Mack Days" on Flathead Lake. Join the fun starting March 13 and running through May 10. But, you don't have to dedicate an abundance of days fishing during that time period to still be a winner. Fish as often as you can or as little as you'd like.

FREE TO ENTER

Sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, there are no entry fees for Spring Mack Days. Anglers are helping to restore a balance in Flathead Lake by reducing nonnative lake trout and in turn, helping to increase native bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout numbers.

Entries are taken right up to the last day of the tournament. There's even a prize for the smallest fish turned in.

A $10,000 FISH LURKS IN THE WATERS OF FLATHEAD LAKE

One of the exciting ways to win a share of the $225,000 in cash and prizes available is by hooking into a tagged lake trout, which is not difficult to recognize and explained in the rules. Tagged fish have values of $100 to $10,000. Yes, one fish has a tag worth $10,000. And while it's been a few years now, that 10-grand fish has been caught in previous Mach Days tournaments.

Spring Mack Days runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through May 10. Mondays through Thursdays are Bonus Days and tagged fish only. Bonus dollars are also available to anglers who turn in more than 10 fish.

There also various age categories and men's and women's divisions. It all makes for quite the exciting tournament. If you think you'd like to dip a line or two for all or part of Spring Mack Days, you can sign up using this page of the Mack Days website.

Good fishing to one and all!
