That's allergy season. Spring in Montana can be filled with itchy eyes, runny noses and sneezing. It's easy to go to your nearest pharmacy and pick up some over-the-counter medications to help combat the symptoms. If going the medicine route isn't something you want to do, there are some natural ways to combat allergies.

According to Dedicated Senior Medical Center, they have some suggestions for fighting the sniffles.

  • Stay Hydrated: drinking water helps keep your body's histamine levels low. The more histamines that you have the more your body is susceptible to symptoms. You can also add in fruits and vegetables that have high water content, like celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, and watermelon, according to Sharp.com.
  •  Vitamin C: Vitamin C boosts the body's immune system. Taking Vitamin C supplement will help, but also eating foods that are rich in Vitamin-C will help. According to Healthline.com, foods that are high in Vitamin C are Kakadu plums, chili peppers, guavas, and sweet yellow peppers among others.
  • Sinus Rinses: Using a saline solution with a neti pot can not only help clear your sinuses, but also hydrate them. According to the Mayo Clinic, you should not use tap water in a neti pot. Water labeled 'distilled' or 'sterilized' can be used.

If you do some of these things, you may not have to rely on medication. Trying to keep your house dust and pollen free can also help. For all those who suffer from allergies, good luck out there this spring.
