When Will Montana Stop Changing Clocks? What to Know for 2026
Montana still has well over two months left of winter, but it’s not too early to start thinking about spring and everything that comes with it.
One thing that many Montanans look forward to is more daylight. In January alone, parts of Montana will see an increase of up to an hour more of daylight. Spring in Montana also includes the annual time change.
When Daylight Saving Time Starts in 2026
In 2026, Montanans will turn their clocks forward an hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8. Montana will continue to change our clocks twice a year as long as other states in the West continue to do so.

It has now been five years since Montana passed the bill, which would keep us in Daylight Saving Time year-round, if a series of other events happened. Montana is just waiting for other western states to join in the movement to stop the clock changes.
According to a Gallup poll in 2025, over half of Americans would like to do away Daylight Saving Time. Elon Musk, polled people on X, in March of 2025, about their preference for keeping time the same all year, whether they wanted an hour earlier or hour later. Over 1.3 million people voted and over 58% preferred an hour later.
There was a short time in Montana when we didn't change our clocks.

There are many arguments on both sides of the issue, which is probably why we haven’t seen a change. For the time being, Montana will continue to change our clocks twice a year. The next change will be taking place this March when we all “lose” an hour of sleep by turning our clocks ahead an hour.
