Two Unique Dairies in Missoula to Know About

Every year at Thanksgiving I have to decide how much of a stomach ache am I willing to endure. Sure a lot of us overeat, but I'm talking about the stomach ache that comes from eating too many dairy products. The cheese, the cream, the milk, it tastes so good but feels so bad.

For me, I tend to drink alternative milk because I don't tolerate dairy well. Recently, I switched to oat milk and I was pleasantly surprised when I found an oat milk at the store that was made right here in Missoula by Cool Earth Plant-Based Creamery.

I still can't get over that it says Missoula, MT right on the bottle, but there were a few other details that tickled me pink. The bottles are made of glass, so it feels kind of vintage, but the reason why they're glass is so that they're more sustainable. You can see in the photo above you can get a $2 credit when you return the bottle. You can find their milk at over a dozen places in Missoula as well as Hamilton, Bigfork, and Whitefish.

Another dairy worth knowing about is Hickory Leaf Dairy Goats, a local farm with ADGA/AGS registered Nigerian Dwarf and LaMancha dairy goats. According to their website, they have award-winning goat milk and cheese.

Keep in mind if you are lactose intolerant that goat milk does still have lactose, but WebMD says "Some people find goat milk slightly easier to digest than cow milk, but this is highly individual."

If you are interested in buying milk or cheese you can contact them through their website. They do say on their site, "Right now we are trying to keep up with the milk orders, so please check if we've had enough mike to make cheese. We will have enough milk in mid-November."
