Montana has a reputation for a lot of things. We have been known to be a bit rebellious, who remembers when we didn't have a speed limit in Montana? We have also been known to enjoy an adult beverage every once in a while. Probably more than every once in a while.

Three Montana Cities Make the List of "Drunkest"

According to 247Tempo.com there are three Montana towns that have made their list of the 50 "Drunkest Cities in America". One Montana town not only ranked in the top 5, but comes in at number two on their list. This is not something we should take pride in. The list is taking into account binge drinking and traffic fatalities among other metrics.

The CDC defines "binge drinking" as:

Binge drinking is defined as consuming 5 or more drinks on an occasion for men or 4 or more drinks on an occasion for women.

The national average percentage of fatal car accidents is 26.56%. All of the Montana towns on this list exceed the national average.

Billings, Montana Ranks at Number 21

The lowest Montana town on their list comes in at number 21 and that is Billings, Montana. The percentage of fatal accidents involving alcohol in Billings is 44.17%.

Great Falls, Montana Ranks at Number 14

Another Montana town has made the list. Great Falls, Montana comes in at number 14. The percentage of fatal accidents involving alcohol in Great Falls is  51.92%

Missoula, Montana is Ranked at Number 2

The top ranked Montana city on the list is Missoula. The only other city in the U.S. that outpaces Missoula, is St. Cloud, Minnesota. The percentage of fatal accidents in Missoula that involve alcohol is 34.29%.

This List is Subjective

The rankings are also subjective. Both Great Falls and Billings have higher percentages of fatal accidents involving alcohol than Missoula, but they both rank lower on the list. Regardless of where the rankings land, having Montana cities on this list is not a good thing.
