The national election is coming up on Tuesday, November 5th. If you receive mail, listen to the radio, watch TV, or spend any time on the internet, you are probably very aware that this may be the most important election of our lives.

For me personally, every election I've had the opportunity to vote in has been important. For the upcoming election, there are a few things every voter in Montana should be aware of, regardless of candidate support.

Track Your Ballot- If you vote by absentee ballot, you can check its status to see if it has been received and accepted. If there are concerns about your ballot, you can track its progress. In case of an issue, you can contact your local polling place. To track your ballot online you can click here.

Watch What You Wear to Vote- Montana is one of 19 states where it is against the law to wear political clothing to a polling station. Political candidates sell a lot more types of clothing these days. A person can show their support from head to toe with political swag these days, but there are restrictions on what you can wear to a polling place. According to Montana law:

A person may not buy, sell, give, wear, or display at or about the polls on an election day any badge, button, or other insignia that is designed or tends to aid or promote the success or defeat of any candidate or ballot issue to be voted upon at the election.

Montana Voting Records Are Public- State voting information is available to purchase from the state as long as it is not intended for "commercial use". Your voting record is part of the Statewide Voter File Information. The information available doesn't say who a person voted, but it does say if a person voted, how they voted, the election date and type of election and more. This election will see many positions decided, including our nation's President. Be aware of what you can and can't do while voting for this upcoming election day.
